Doctors Group Applauds Senate for Protecting Planned Parenthood Funding

This legislation is dangerous, wrong-headed

New York, NY—Statement from Physicians for Reproductive Health President/CEO Jodi Magee:

“Today we thank our champions in the United States Senate, who stood with Planned Parenthood and the millions of patients it serves nationwide, for voting against an effort to bar Planned Parenthood’s participation in federal health programs like Medicaid.

“If this vote had been successful, it would have paved the way to eliminating affordable health care for the 2.7 million people who rely on Planned Parenthood annually. For many, Planned Parenthood is their only source of care—offering low-cost contraception, comprehensive reproductive health care, and basic preventive services that are fundamental to women’s health and well-being. It was a dangerous and wrong-headed path.

“Physicians for Reproductive Health hopes that lawmakers will refrain from continued efforts to stigmatize safe, legal abortion and also remember that one in three women will have an abortion by the time she is 45. In the face of anti-choice legislation in Congress and state legislatures, and despite harassment and intimidation, our dedicated physicians and other health care professionals continue to provide high-quality care to women. Physicians for Reproductive Health stands with Planned Parenthood and with abortion providers nationwide.”
