SCOTUS Will Hear Arguments, S.B. 8 Still in Effect

Today the Supreme Court of the United States announced it will hear arguments on Texas’s clearly unconstitutional abortion ban, S.B. 8, on November 1, 2021. In the meantime, the dangerous abortion ban will remain in place.

President & CEO of Physicians for Reproductive Health Dr. Jamila Perritt responds:

“For nearly two months, Texans have been denied their basic constitutional right to decide for themselves whether to continue a pregnancy. People’s access to safe, necessary health care like abortion care should not be caught between courts and politicians; abortion care is a basic human right that everyone should have access to in their communities with the support and resources they need.

We will not rest until abortion care is available and accessible in the state of Texas

“While the decision to wait to hear arguments on the case before taking action is devastating for communities in Texas who need abortions and provide abortion care, we will keep working in partnership with organizers and advocates on the ground to ensure people get the abortion care they need without shame, intimidation, or criminalization.

“We will not rest until abortion care is available and accessible in the state of Texas. Pregnant people’s decisions should not be predetermined by the controlling and oppressive whims of policymakers; abortion is time sensitive health care that cannot be restricted or delayed.”
