Story No. 156: Laurel from Texas

I am a mother to a beautiful two-year-old boy, and I am currently expecting my second child, another boy. I have been able to access reproductive health care for all of my adult life, which means that these two pregnancies have been my only pregnancies. I am healthy and have the family that I planned for. I have been able to access reproductive health care to get birth control using the form of contraception that was the best for me and my partner at the time, including birth control pills, a diaphragm, and an IUD. I have also received an immunization for HPV to protect me against cervical cancer. I have been able to get a pap smear and a breast exam at scheduled times, and sometimes this has resulted in follow-up action to keep me healthy, including a colposcopy and a LEEP procedure (to remove abnormal cervical cells). I am a registered voter in Austin, TX, a state employee, a wife, a mother. I am able to be who I am today because I am able to have the life that I planned for myself and my family. Every woman should have that opportunity; every person should have that opportunity.
