Story No. 23: Jessica from Maryland

After my third move to a third state in under a year, my birth control prescription ended with no notice from the pharmacy. Desperate to refill my prescription, I ran to the closest health clinic and begged for a refill. The doctor at this clinic refused to give me a refill because he did not have records of my most recent pap-smear. I left the doctor crying, but managed to make the call to Planned Parenthood in Silver Spring, Maryland and they scheduled an appointment for the very next day.

The doctor I saw there was understanding, helpful, and even answered a few questions that weren’t related to my birth control. She gave me an exam, I left the office with a brand new prescription, and they provided me some important information that previous doctors had left out. As a 24-year-old with a very small salary, I can’t afford a pregnancy. I am forever thankful for Planned Parenthood for being there for me when I needed them most.
