This week, I had a patient who I could not give the birth control she wanted because we are not a Title X clinic and aren’t able to keep it in stock. I had to refer her to a different clinic to get a Nexplanon (birth control implant). In the meantime, she called to say that she is pregnant.

I’m treating her for opiate dependence and hypertension, and treatment for both of those things is much more complicated in pregnancy. If we were a Title X clinic, we’d have had the Nexplanons in stock, and I could have given it to her when she wanted it.
