Story No. 415: Emily from Rhode Island

I believe that sex education in all schools is a very important aspect of understanding your own body and can help guide you in making decisions.

For example, my English teacher told us a story about a teenage girl who had become pregnant. When the doctor told her, she had no idea how or when she had become pregnant because she hadn’t had any education about the subject at school or by her parents.

The girl was terrified and said that she wasn’t ready to have kids. If she had known about how her body works and about sex, she could have avoided the situation or handled it differently. Further educating young teens in schools can prevent situations like these and encourage a healthier body and mind.
