Story No. 455: Patient from Massachusetts

I became pregnant with quadruplets following IVF. How it happened is a mystery, but it’s possible that the two good quality embryos that they implanted both split, or.. who knows.

We had a five-year-old and had been trying to get pregnant again for a couple of years. Even though I was youngish, healthy, and could have probably carried quads as well as anyone, we knew it was not realistic. We reduced to two embryos at around 12 weeks.

It was a very difficult time and circumstance. I got support from a brave, brilliant online community, but there is so little knowledge or information shared, the taboo of reduction/abortion makes it so that there’s not even good statistics or language for talking about it. I’ve put it completely behind me, but I’ll fight for expanded access to abortion every chance I can because you NEVER know the situation. You NEVER know. And the more we can support women, research, talk openly, improve health outcomes, and embrace every decision, the less trauma there is to heal from.
