At UC Davis, the main campus is approximately 20 miles from the medical campus where the Family Planning clinic is housed. Transportation can be challenging and expensive for students who have to rely on a car, order an Uber or Lyft, depend on a friend for a ride to the medical campus, or wait for the shuttle that does not run often. Having the ability to access medical abortion on campus is less disruptive to their education, reduces costs to them, and protects their privacy—they do not have to ask a friend for a ride, or ask to be excused from class for doctor’s visit. Increased accessibility also promotes continuity of care if they are already receiving care with nurse practitioner or provider on campus for other medical care.
