Inside Look: 2018 Voices of Courage Benefit

At our annual Benefit, we celebrated our doctors and supporters from across the country. Hosted by actor Elizabeth Marvel, we also honored our 2018 award recipients – Dr. Sacheen Nathan, Dr. Roslyn Kade, and Cecile Richards – for the extraordinary steps they’ve taken to ensure patients have access to reproductive health care.

Meet Our Advocates: Dr. Terez Yonan

For our ongoing Meet Our Advocates series, we interviewed Dr. Terez Yonan, an adolescent medicine doctor from California. In her Q&A, she talks about her early work in the medical field as a high school student, the young patient who taught her about building patient-doctor relationships, and the woman mentors who have inspired her.

Staff Spotlight: Jeryl Hayes  

Jeryl Hayes, JD, LL.M., who has been with Physicians for Reproductive Health since 2015, is currently our Director, Public Policy. Her legal training in reproductive health, rights, and justice has shaped her career in policy analysis and advocacy, as well as her volunteer work empowering women and families.

Jeryl earned her law degree from Washington University in St. Louis School of Law and her Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication from Denison University. After earning her Masters in Law at American University in 2012, Jeryl completed the Law Students for Reproductive Justice (now If/When/How) Fellowship Program, with placement at the Black Women’s Health Imperative. From 2013-2015, she was the Domestic Policy Analyst with Advocates for Youth.

In 2017, Jeryl became the Board President of the DC Abortion Fund (DCAF), an all-volunteer non-profit that makes grants to pregnant people in the DC area who cannot afford the full cost of an abortion. She previously served as the Chair of the Women’s Information Network (WIN), DC’s premier professional, political, and social network dedicated to empowering young, pro-choice, Democratic women. Jeryl is based in Washington, DC.

It’s #PrideMonth and our Adolescent Reproductive and Sexual Health Education Program (ARSHEP) program is proud to share our “LGBTQ Essentials” curriculum, which includes presentations and videos to aid in the care of adolescent LGBTQ patients.
