Komal Kumar (MD) is a Fellow in our Leadership Training Academy Class of 2026 and specializes in Complex Family Planning. She shared the following reflections on her work, advocacy, and what brings her joy.

What are your clinical or research interests?

Providing abortion care, pain control during abortion procedures, how legislation affects my prior mentioned clinical interests; providing contraception in medically complex patients.

What current policy issue motivates you to be an advocate?

After the Dobbs decision in 2022, being a resident in a state where restrictive abortion legislation was constantly being passed and how quickly that changed what services we could and could not provide is what motivates me to be an advocate.

What local justice-centered organization do you wish we knew about?

Good Trouble Coalition in Indiana! They work tirelessly to track bills in the state house/senate, testify, and raise awareness about issues in the Indianapolis community that affect historically marginalized populations.

What is bringing you joy these days?

Exploring the Pacific Northwest including hiking and camping, chatting with my mom on the phone, watching clips of Bad Bunny residency in Puerto Rico, making chai in the morning.

Our Meet Our Advocates series showcases the talents and passion of one of our doctors and finds out, in their own words, what inspires them to be physician advocates. Learn more about the Leadership Training Academy.
