Joyce Sutedja
Joyce Sutedja (MD) is a Fellow in our Leadership Training Academy Class of 2027 and specializes in OB/GYN. Reflections on work, advocacy, and sources of joy are shared below.
What are your clinical or research interests?
Ensuring California remains a haven for reproductive health access, particularly through legislative advocacy! I also take my teaching role seriously, ensuring medical students and residents learn how to provide evidence-based, equitable reproductive health care to all. Finally, I am passionate about ensuring equitable health outcomes for publicly insured or uninsured individuals.
What current policy issue motivates you to be an advocate?
Unfortunately, so many of them right now: the current administration’s attacks on immigrant communities (and how this impacts patient health outcomes and access to care) and reproductive bodily autonomy, massive cuts in funding of public healthcare and research, decimation of regulatory bodies meant to oversee public safety, and so much more.
What local justice-centered organization do you wish we knew about?
Violence Intervention Project (VIP) @vip_cares
What is bringing you joy these days?
My 6 year old son’s love of baking, rare days of sleeping in, the moment things “click” for a trainee I’ve been teaching, when I can make my husband truly belly laugh.
Our Meet Our Advocates series showcases the talents and passion of one of our doctors and finds out, in their own words, what inspires them to be physician advocates. Learn more about the Leadership Training Academy.
