Kate Crofton
Kate Crofton (MD) is a Fellow in our Leadership Training Academy Class of 2027 and specializes in OB/GYN and Complex Family Planning. Reflections on work, advocacy, and sources of joy are shared below.
What are your clinical or research interests?
Every patient deserves to have doctors who understand the basics of pregnancy options counseling and abortion care. My clinical and research interests center around developing tools to support medical trainees of all specialties to take excellent care of patients who have abortions.
What current policy issue motivates you to be an advocate?
The Hyde amendment motivates me, because state residence shouldn’t limit the ability to access abortion care. It is unjust that patients in my home state of Wisconsin who are insured through Medicaid don’t have abortion coverage while those who live across the border in Illinois do.
What local justice-centered organization do you wish we knew about?
The Chicago Abortion Fund! Post Dobbs, 1 out of 4 people traveling across states lines for abortion care come to Illinois. CAF provides incredible financial, practical, and emotional support for those who need it.
What is bringing you joy these days?
“Sniffaris and pup cups” — Jack the Dog
Our Meet Our Advocates series showcases the talents and passion of one of our doctors and finds out, in their own words, what inspires them to be physician advocates. Learn more about the Leadership Training Academy.
