Elena Perkins (MD) is a Fellow in our Leadership Training Academy Class of 2027 and specializes in Complex Family Planning. Reflections on work, advocacy, and sources of joy are shared below.

What are your clinical or research interests?

Adolescent abortion care, immediate postpartum contraception, pain control during abortion procedures.

What current policy issue motivates you to be an advocate?

Gestational age restrictions, the devastating increase in maternal mortality in states with abortion bans, criminalization of bodily autonomy.

What local justice-centered organization do you wish we knew about?

Colorado Doula Project: they’re an incredible grassroots non-profit that helps patients get the abortion care and support they need; everything from funding, to rides, hotel, medications, childcare, emotional support, and more.

What is bringing you joy these days?

Petting random dogs, finding the best meal at a hole-in-the-wall restaurant in a new city, a good bit, a new found love of hiking around Colorado.

Our Meet Our Advocates series showcases the talents and passion of one of our doctors and finds out, in their own words, what inspires them to be physician advocates. Learn more about the Leadership Training Academy.
