Indiana Provider Senselessly Targeted by Anti-Abortion Extremists

Today, the Medical Licensing Board of Indiana is hearing arguments regarding the licensure of PRH community member and ob/gyn in Indiana Dr. Caitlin Bernard.

Dr. Katie McHugh, ob/gyn and abortion provider in Indiana and Board Member with Physicians for Reproductive Health responds:

“Today, officials in my home state are unnecessarily and dangerously targeting a compassionate, expert abortion provider. As an ob/gyn and provider of abortion care who has been practicing in Indiana for 12 years, I am deeply and personally aware of baseless attacks that anti-abortion zealots continue to dream up in order to make it impossible for people to access and provide life-saving abortion care. Today’s hearing is yet another example of the lengths they will go to attack our basic needs and rights.

I am deeply and personally aware of baseless attacks that anti-abortion zealots continue to dream up in order to make it impossible for people to access and provide life-saving abortion care.

“This is not the first instance of abortion providers being senselessly targeted by the state and it will not be the last. Our community of advocates, providers, and allies must be deeply committed to pushing against attacks like these, and those experienced by people trying to access abortion care every day.

“Our community is in solidarity with Dr. Bernard. We need expert health care providers like her to be providing health care to patients, not wrapped up in political games aiming to make it impossible for her to keep providing basic care to our community.”
