Physicians for Reproductive Health to Host “Advocates on the Frontlines” Virtual Event With Emcee Olivia Wilde

May 20 online fundraiser will spotlight doctors providing abortion care amid the COVID-19 pandemic

NEW YORK – On Wednesday, May 20, 2020 at 7:30 pm ET, Physicians for Reproductive Health will host “Advocates on the Frontlines,” an online fundraising event to support doctors across the country in their efforts to advocate for policies that protect reproductive health care, including access to abortion.

Emceed by actor, director, producer, and activist Olivia Wilde, the event comes as multiple state government leaders have recently sought to exploit the COVID-19 crisis to ban essential abortion care and ahead of a major ruling expected next month by the Supreme Court on a restrictive Louisiana abortion law. The fundraiser will feature a discussion between three abortion providers and graduates of Physicians for Reproductive Health’s Leadership Training Academy on how COVID-19 and other threats to abortion access have impacted their work. Resistance Revival Chorus will provide music throughout the event.

All proceeds from the event will directly support Physicians for Reproductive Health’s work to train and empower doctors to advocate for reproductive health policies that are based on medicine, not political ideology.

“This a crucial moment to defend our basic human right to govern our own bodies,” said Olivia Wilde. “Opponents of abortion are taking advantage of this pandemic to limit access to our essential reproductive healthcare across the nation. They think we’re distracted enough to forget this fight. Let’s show them we’re not.”

“As an abortion provider and frontline heath care worker, I’ve seen firsthand how crucial access to reproductive health care is during this pandemic,” said Dr. Katie McHugh, a board member of Physicians for Reproductive Health. “Especially during a health crisis, people must be able to make decisions about their own reproductive health with the support of their doctors and loved ones and without political interference. At a time when abortion access is so deeply threatened, I am proud to join providers from across the country in supporting Physicians for Reproductive Health’s vital work to amplify the voices of doctors on the frontlines and help them advocate for their patients and communities.”
