Today, President & CEO of Physicians for Reproductive Health Dr. Jamila Perritt attended President Biden’s State of the Union address as the guest of Rep. Nydia Velázquez. This is the first time a community member of PRH has been invited to attend the State of the Union. Dr. Perritt responds to the President’s speech:
“I was honored to be Rep. Velazquez’s guest tonight as we listened intently for President Biden to renew his commitment to the fight for reproductive freedom and abortion access.
“We appreciate the President’s commitments to addressing health care disparities and calls to unite around key intersectional issues essential to our collective liberation such as gun control, voting rights, and reproductive rights. We continue to need bold action to protect and expand abortion access in this perilous moment beyond calls to codify Roe v. Wade, a floor that left many without access. As we deal with continued threats following the overturn of Roe v. Wade–including a lawsuit that could soon revoke the FDA’s approval of mifepristone–now is the time for the Biden administration to expand on their commitment to ensuring real access to abortion care.
