Senate Introduces Attack on Mifepristone

Yesterday, Sen. Josh Hawley introduced legislation that would ban and withdrawal mifepristone’s Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval.

“Time and time again, anti-abortion legislators show their hand: while they make claims to prioritize health and safety, in reality, they’re simply obsessed with finding new ways to put abortion care completely out of reach.  

“Despite the unrelenting and unfounded attacks from anti-abortion extremists, independent scientists, researchers, and the FDA have concluded many times over that mifepristone is safe, medication abortion is safe, and people who have abortions are receiving evidence-based care. There is no question of medication abortion’s safety. 

“Despite the misinformation and disinformation that anti-abortion politicians like Senator Hawley continue to push, the science is clear: mifepristone is safe, mifepristone is effective, and mifepristone is still medically indicated to be used for full spectrum sexual and reproductive health care, including for abortion care.”
