Meet Our Advocates: Dr. Connie Liu

What are your gender pronouns?
She/her/hers

Where are you from?
Gallup, NM. I grew up in North Canton, OH.

What’s your specialty or area of expertise?
I am a generalist obstetrician and gynecologist working with a primarily Native American population.

What first inspired you to become a doctor?
I come from a medical family; choosing medicine was a natural choice.

What current policy issue especially motivates you to be an advocate?
I’m currently interested in reproductive rights issues (of course), and have also become interested in environmental issues as a large number of patients in my area are impacted by uranium mining. The largest nuclear disaster in U.S. history occurred only miles from where I live.

How do you practice self-care?
Exercise, I love to run and spin! Spending time with my family, I’m married to a urologist and we have a young daughter.

Who is your social justice hero?
Dr. Mona Hanna-Attisha, the pediatrician who blew the whistle in Flint, MI is hugely inspirational to me.

Our Meet Our Advocates series showcases the talents and passion of one of our doctors and finds out, in their own words, what inspires them to be physician-advocates. Connie Liu, MD is in our current Leadership Training Academy class. Dr. Liu practices obstetrics and gynecology in New Mexico.
