Today the Supreme Court of the United States issued a decision to uphold the Affordable Care Act.
President and CEO Dr. Jamila Perritt issued the following response:
“After continual challenges to the Affordable Care Act, today’s Supreme Court decision is a relief. The Affordable Care Act is life saving and necessary. Ensuring continuing availability of health coverage under the Affordable Care Act means saving the health and wellbeing of more than 23 million people. As we continue to navigate the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, it is more critical than ever that we increase access to the health care our communities need, not take it away.
The Affordable Care Act is life saving and necessary.
“While this is a huge win, we continue to advocate for further expansion of health care coverage for patients who still lack care even as the ACA remains law of the land. We continue to push for equitable access to all health care, including contraceptive care, birth care, and abortion care, especially for communities who face the most barriers to health care due to systemic oppressions: Black people, Indigenous people, other people of color, young people, people with disabilities, and LGBTQ+ people.”
