Today, President & CEO of Physicians for Reproductive Health Dr. Jamila Perritt will be attending President Biden’s State of the Union address as the guest of Rep. Nydia Velázquez.
This is the first time a community member of PRH has been invited to attend the State of the Union. Dr. Perritt responds:
“I am honored to be Rep. Nydia Velázquez’s guest at this year’s State of the Union address, especially given her leadership in raising the alarm about how the effects of abortion bans and criminalization fall disproportionately on Black and Brown communities.
“I appreciate this opportunity to continue to bring attention to the abortion access crisis. As we deal with continued threats following the overturn of Roe v. Wade–including a lawsuit that could soon revoke the FDA’s approval of mifepristone–now is the time for our lawmakers and the Biden Administration to reaffirm and expand on their commitment to ensuring real access to abortion care.
“As a physician, an abortion provider, and President of Physicians for Reproductive Health, I am proud to be a part of a community of physician advocates that are working to build a future where abortion care is no longer singled out or stigmatized and where all people are guaranteed safe, equitable access without shame, barriers, or discrimination.”
