FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
ALBANY, NY – Today, Wednesday May 30, Physicians for Reproductive Health and the National Institute for Reproductive Health are hosting the 2018 NY Repro Freedom Day of Action in Albany. Over 100 health care providers and grassroots activists will come together to tell their state senators it’s time for New York to be a leader in protecting reproductive freedom by passing the Reproductive Health Act and the Comprehensive Contraception Coverage Act.
“The Reproductive Health Act and the Comprehensive Contraception Coverage Act are common-sense, evidence-based policies in line with New Yorkers’ freedom and self-determination,” said Dr. Anne Davis, Consulting Medical Director of Physicians for Reproductive Health. “As regressive politicians take extreme steps to reduce health care access on the federal level, it is time for New York to lead and ensure comprehensive reproductive health care for all.
The Reproductive Health Act and the Comprehensive Contraception Coverage Act would protect access to reproductive health care in New York, separate from federal level threats. The Reproductive Health Act brings New York’s outdated abortion laws into line with constitutional protections, and the Comprehensive Contraception Coverage Act would enshrine and expand on the contraception coverage guarantees in the Affordable Care Act.
“The New York Senate’s leadership continues to obstruct the democratic process by refusing to allow these critical bills to come to the floor for a vote, or even debate,” continued Davis. “I am grateful for the health care providers and activists gathering in Albany today to make their voices heard. We have waited long enough. It’s time for the Senate to stop playing politics with their constituents’ health.”
The 2018 NY Repro Freedom Day of Action will be held from 9:30 to 5:30 on May 30 at the New York State Capitol in Albany. Follow @prhdocs on Twitter and use #ReproFreedomNY.
