On February 18, 2019, one of Physicians for Reproductive Health’s earlier Board Members, Dr. Philip Corfman, passed away.
In response, president and CEO of Physicians for Reproductive Health Jodi Magee issued the following statement:
“We at Physicians for Reproductive Health are saddened to hear of Dr. Philip Corfman’s passing after a lifetime of advocating for access to safe and effective contraception. An ob/gyn, Dr. Corfman worked with the National Institutes of Health, the World Health Organization, and the Food and Drug Administration to expand available methods of contraception and emergency contraception. He was also integral in the development of mifepristone, a medication still used today for medication abortion and miscarriage management.
“Phil, who served on our board from 1998 to 2005, was a staunch supporter of access to comprehensive reproductive health care in everything he did. During our early years, he was instrumental in helping us build the organization, develop our first strategic plan, and was especially key as we were working on educational outreach to the medical community about medication abortion.
“We wouldn’t be able to do the work we do each and every day with our physician advocates if it weren’t for early champions in the reproductive health field, like Phil Corfman. Our thoughts are with his family as we remember his incredible contributions to advancing quality reproductive health care in this country.”
