In response to the news that Congresswoman Louise Slaughter passed away today, President and CEO of Physicians for Reproductive Health Jodi Magee issued the following statement:
“Physicians for Reproductive Health mourns the passing of Congresswoman Louise Slaughter, a reproductive rights hero and groundbreaking public servant. Throughout her more than three decades in the House of Representatives, Congresswoman Slaughter was a bold, unapologetic champion for women’s health and rights. It has been a great privilege to work with her over the years in her capacity as co-chair and founding member of the Congressional Pro-Choice Caucus, meeting numerous times with our providers advocating on Capitol Hill. Her deep devotion to women’s well-being also included leading the way in the creation of the Office of Research on Women’s Health, coauthoring the Violence Against Women Act, and playing an essential role in the passage of the Affordable Care Act. Her dedicated leadership indelibly changed the landscape for American women. We are grateful for her life’s work and send our deepest condolences to her family, friends, and colleagues.”
