This week, PRH’s Board Chair Elect Dr. Ghazaleh Moayedi along with a number of abortion funds in Texas filed a motion for a protective order from discovery requests to publicize the private and personal information of the patients they care for and the donors who support Texans in need of abortion care.
President and CEO of Physicians for Reproductive Health Dr. Jamila Perritt responds:
“Our community of health care providers and supporters were appalled to learn that earlier this month, the architect of Texas’s cruel abortion ban, SB 8, attempted to threaten abortion funds and Dr. Moayedi with demands to turn over the names of their patients, clients, and donors.
“This is yet another scare tactic to try and threaten our community from providing the support and care their communities need. Threats do not change pregnant people’s deep need for timely and compassionate care, no matter what care that might be. We are proud to have dedicated and expert providers like Dr. Moayedi supporting our organization’s vision.
…no one should be surveilled, threatened, or fear criminalization by the state because of their health care needs.
“This action brought by funds and Dr. Moayedi is one of protection: no one should be surveilled, threatened, or fear criminalization by the state because of their health care needs. We encourage Congressional leadership and the Courts to protect the private information of people needing health care, to show support to Texas abortion funds and Dr. Moayedi, and to create protections against senseless threats like this happening in the future.”
