Texas perpetuating misinformation about abortion

Texas Governor Greg Abbott (R) signed a bill into law that perpetuates misinformation about those who are in need of abortion care later in pregnancy and the providers who care for them.

Dr. Ghazaleh Moayedi, a Board Certified OB/GYN in Texas and Board Member with Physicians for Reproductive Health, responded with the following statement:

“As a Texan, a physician, and a mother, I’m disheartened to see that many of our elected officials wasted our legislative session on this bill, rather than actually passing proposed legislation to improve maternal and child health in Texas. Bills like the one signed by Governor Abbott perpetuate dangerous lies about abortion care, the people who receive this care, and the health care providers who care for them. The misinformation in the bill is deliberately being used to confuse people and push abortion care out of reach for patients across the state of Texas.

“The people I provide care for know their lives better than any politician”

“Every day, pregnant people in Texas face the deeply personal decision of whether or not to continue their pregnancies. Physicians like myself who choose to practice the entire scope of reproductive health care, including abortion, should not be threatened with criminalization for doing our job. We listen to the needs of patients and provide them with compassionate, high-quality, evidence-based health care. The people I provide care for know their lives better than any politician, any judge, and any health care professional. The least I can do is listen to them and ensure that they get the health care they need when they need it, and in a way that honors their life, faith, and values.”
