Today, the Trump administration released the final Title X gag rule.
In response, Board Chair of Physicians for Reproductive Health Dr. Willie Parker issued the following statement:
“As a physician who takes care of patients every day, I know that this rule flies in the face of ethical standards of care.
“Title X family planning funding currently helps more than 4 million people—including people with low incomes or those who don’t have insurance. The good that Title X has on Americans’ health and well-being is undeniable.
I am deeply alarmed by this change in longstanding policy and practice in the Title X program.
“These changes to Title X dramatically shift the program. The new rule shortchanges patients who deserve accurate information about all of their options concerning pregnancy and potentially deprives them of seeking care from trusted community health care providers like Planned Parenthood.
“No health care provider should be forced to withhold or manipulate information that their patients request. I am deeply alarmed by this change in longstanding policy and practice in the Title X program.”
