Story No. 117: Provider from California

I am a registered nurse, family nurse practitioner, and school nurse–I’ve been working in nursing since 1981. One of my biggest passions is advocating for people who can’t or don’t have the ability to do so. As a school nurse and a former employee of Planned Parenthood, I have been so grateful for Planned Parenthood’s services as they are available to everyone.

When a young woman is too fearful to go to her family doctor for reproductive care, Planned Parenthood is a viable option. Contrary to popular belief most women do not come to Planned Parenthood for abortions. Yes, that is one of their services at some of their locations, but in my 10 years of working there, most of the women walking in the door came in for STD testing and birth control.

Planned Parenthood also goes into the schools in my district and does a beautiful job of providing factual sexual health education.
