When I was nearly nineteen years old, I accidentally got pregnant with my long-term boyfriend. Despite being in love and committed to each other, we both knew that we were not prepared to be parents, financially, emotionally, or practically. We were fortunate to have the option of obtaining a safe, confidential, affordable abortion nearby. While sad, we knew it was absolutely the right decision. Nearly thirty years later, he and I are still friends, and I am the proud mother of identical twin teenage daughters, whom my husband and I actively and lovingly chose to adopt when they were toddlers.
