I am grateful every day that my patients have access to abortion without a waiting period due to the fact that I practice in California.

By the time a woman comes into my clinic, she has thought about her decision. She doesn’t need patronizing lawmakers to tell her that she should sleep on it for a day or two.

I’m grateful that I don’t have to read my patients a government-mandated speech full of “fake news” about abortion. I like to practice medicine with compassion and with facts. I’m grateful that my patients can get an abortion and an IUD on the same day, if that’s what they want. Insurance hurdles shouldn’t be the thing that stops women from planning their pregnancies and their lives.

I’m grateful that I live in a state where lawmakers trust and respect women.
