A young couple who went through rounds of IVF and finally got pregnant (such a desired pregnancy), found out at their anatomy scan at 19 weeks that the fetus had a huge omphalocele (a condition where the intestines and other the internal organs are outside the body). They met with the pediatric surgeons and, after hearing how many surgeries the baby would have to undergo because of how large the omphalocele was, and because of the potential for poor prognosis, they decided that the most humane thing to do was to end the pregnancy.
