"I see lots of kids who wouldn't have health insurance without the CHIP."

Story No. 364: Dr. Emily from New Mexico

I see lots of kids who wouldn’t have health insurance without the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP). I can think of a child I saw recently who was brought in for a well-child check. We were able to see that he had a developmental delay and to get him and his family hooked into early intervention services (which are vital to help kids get back on track and must be done in a timely manner to prevent further decline).

All of this was possible, even while the child was living in a shelter with his family, because of CHIP. If it hadn’t been for his health insurance, they wouldn’t have been able to bring him to the doctor, and these problems wouldn’t have been diagnosed or addressed until they were much worse.
