I saw a patient yesterday who broke my heart.

She didn’t think she could get pregnant because of her complicated medical conditions. In her last pregnancy, she had life-threatening bleeding and almost died. When she realized she was pregnant, she came to the decision she needed an abortion so she could be alive for her four children. She went to one of only three abortion clinics in Louisiana and was told that the doctor was out of town for two weeks. By the time she came back, she was too far along to get her abortion. She is now trying to figure out ways to go to a clinic outside of the state. She cried in my office and told me that all of this feels unbearable and that she is really scared.
