I had a patient, let’s call her “Denise.” Denise was early in the second trimester of her pregnancy and needed a termination. She was a victim of intimate partner violence and it was very difficult for her to get away from her partner to get to the clinic in the first place.
We were able to provide her abortion that same day, by doing a medically-proven method of abortion (D&E). It was done safely and without complications. She was able to return home that evening as planned. If we had been prohibited from doing this procedure, like some anti-abortion politicians seek to do, she would have been forced to have a more lengthy and more expensive procedure.
