Story No. 47: Allie from Virginia

As a military spouse with insurance through the military, it can still be hard to get care, especially in a timely manner. After being on a course of antibiotics, I developed a yeast infection, and my military treatment provider had no available appointments. Because I am allergic to over-the-counter treatments, the appointment call center suggested I go to the emergency room. I did not want to sit in the emergency room for hours on end only to be treated like a number.

I went to Planned Parenthood and was treated with more dignity and respect than I had ever received from any military health providers. My Planned Parenthood provider treated me like she had been taking care of me my whole life. I did not have authorization from my insurance provider to have my visit covered, and even though I had to pay out of pocket, it was affordable. Without Planned Parenthood’s budget-conscious fees, I could not have afforded this care. Whenever we move, every one to three years, the first thing I do is check to see if there is a Planned Parenthood nearby, because I know Planned Parenthood will always have my back even when my military insurance doesn’t.
