I took care of a college student today who I’ll call Claudine. She is a 20-year-old woman who came to me seeking an abortion. She is in college at a local California school, and she was hoping to finish her schooling before getting pregnant. She came an hour each way from her campus to me for two visits—one for the medication abortion and another time to make sure it worked. However, she was missing class to make it, which made her very stressed since it was around finals time. She had a lot of questions, but it was hard for her to call since she was busy on campus. Getting care would have been so much easier to combine with her studies if she could have received this care at her student health clinic, just like she’s done before for health maintenance and STI screening.
