This is a Voices of Courage story follow up. We welcome you to read the storyteller’s first story here if you haven’t already.
Since sharing my story of ending a wanted pregnancy, I have had multiple experiences that have made me further appreciate the importance of access to good reproductive health care.
After the termination of our wanted pregnancy, we suffered two miscarriages.
The most recent of those miscarriages ended in the emergency room due to excessive bleeding. After hours of bleeding, I passed out and a code blue was called followed by an emergency surgery. The experience was scary, but I am thankful to have had excellent care that saved my life and allowed me to go on to have another pregnancy.
This month we welcomed a son to our family. If we hadn’t received excellent care for our three losses and at his birth, we wouldn’t be where we are today.
All women should be entitled to such care.
