Meet Our Advocates: Dr. Cara Smith (she/her)

Where do you call home?
I have been a Californian for multiple weeks now! I previously lived in North Carolina, Massachusetts, D.C., and Kansas!

What are your clinical or research interests?
As a family physician, I love caring for the whole person, family, and community. I am particularly interested in reproductive health and pregnancy care.

What current policy issue motivates you to be an advocate?
I am highly motivated to advocate for reproductive justice, racial equity, and transgender rights.

What local justice-centered organization do you wish we knew about?
California Latinas for Reproductive Justice (CLRJ) is an amazing organization I recently learned about here. I am excited to learn more about the incredible justice organizations in the LA area as I settle in.

What is bringing you joy these days?
The Southern California sunshine is bringing me so much joy these days. (Is it really like this ALL THE TIME?) I am also enthusiastically working to re-establish my houseplant collection to full glory after selling and giving away many plants prior to my cross-country move.

Our Meet Our Advocates series showcases the talents and passion of one of our doctors and finds out, in their own words, what inspires them to be physician advocates. Cara Smith (MD) is our Leadership Training Academy Class of 2024 Fellow. Dr. Smith practices family medicine in California.
