Meet Our Advocates: Dr. Devki Joshi (she/her)

Where do you call home?
Brooklyn/Queens/Long Island, NY.

What are your clinical or research interests?
Transgender and gender expansive patient perspectives on reproduction and contraception; the intersection of prison abolitionism and reproductive justice, stigmatization of substance use in pregnancy; teaching trauma-informed care; expanding pain control in pelvic and abortion care.

What current policy issue motivates you to be an advocate?
Pregnancy criminalization; the parallel structures imposing both abortion bans and attacks to transgender care; threats to mifepristone, misoprostol, and contraception at large; climate catastrophe and worsening economic and health disparities; motivated by mass labor movements and gains made through collective organizing.

What local justice-centered organization do you wish we knew about?
Los Angeles Abortion Support Collective, Bold Futures New Mexico, Tongva Taraxat Paxaavxa Conservancy.

What is bringing you joy these days?
Healing in the ocean, reading poetry, wandering through bookstores, hiking, collaborating, and organizing with the folks at LTA!
