Where do you call home?
I’m originally from California but went to medical school and residency in New York and Philadelphia, respectively, so the Northeast has been my home for a while now.
What are your clinical or research interests?
I’m passionate about reproductive health care and justice, reproductive health advocacy, and gender affirming care.
What do you wish other providers knew about reproductive health, rights, and justice?
I wish all providers were cognizant of the fact that reproductive health care is an inherent part of primary care (no different than diabetes or hypertension management) and that it is our responsibility to use our platform and privilege as providers to advocate for our patients’ access to this care.
What local justice-centered organization do you want to uplift?
I want to give a shout out to the New York Abortion Access Fund, which provides financial assistance and resources to New Yorkers and people traveling to New York State to access abortion care.
What is bringing you joy?
I just moved back to NYC to start the RHAP fellowship and I’m really enjoying my training and being back in the city and exploring everything it has to offer.
Our Meet Our Advocates series showcases the talents and passion of one of our doctors and finds out, in their own words, what inspires them to be physician advocates. Inna Tounkel (BA, MD) is a Fellow in our Leadership Training Academy Class of 2025 and specializes in Family Medicine.
