Meet Our Advocates: Ishana Shetty (she/her)

Where do you call home?
I’m currently in St. Louis, but I grew up in Ocala, FL!

What are your clinical or research interests?

I’m interested in studying how changes to reproductive healthcare policy affect morbidity/mortality of pregnancy from both a maternal and neonatal standpoint.

What do you wish other providers knew about reproductive health, rights, and justice?

I want providers to understand that this isn’t just an OB/GYN or pregnancy specific issue. Inequities in reproductive healthcare lead to increased morbidity and mortality particularly among the most vulnerable patients. These increases in poor health outcomes put a strain on the whole system — whether that’s more visits to the ER, more ICU admissions, or an increase in the incidence of chronic health conditions like hypertension or diabetes.

What local justice-centered organization do you want to uplift?

Abortion Action Missouri is an organization that does a lot of great work to promote and advance reproductive freedom for Missourians.

What is bringing you joy?

My dog, Mr. Buttons, who is a very grumpy, very cute 12 year-old Scottish Terrier.
