At PRH, we are committed to ensuring that our providers have the necessary resources to keep up with their advocacy for reproductive health and justice. One way we do this is through our Leadership Training Academy program — AKA LTA. The week of February 12, the LTA Class of 2024 kicked off their training in person in Washington, DC!
For a week, Fellows participated in immersive workshops to deepen their understanding of our political landscape, its community impact, and how they could leverage their expertise and voices to combat misinformation and stigma around comprehensive reproductive care, including abortion care and medical care for transgender and nonbinary folks. Together, 32 passionate Fellows discussed strategies for sustainable change, the importance of physician advocacy in the courts, and why decriminalization is essential for Reproductive Justice.
LTA Fellows put their learnings to the test with an advocacy day on Capitol Hill, urging federal lawmakers in the House of Representatives and the Senate to prioritize abortion accessibility, gender-affirming care, and maternal health care. Cumulatively, the doctors attended 32 meetings with Congresspeople from 19 states advocating for the EACH Act and the Black Maternal Health Momnibus Act.
Please join us in welcoming the Class of 2024 to the Leadership Training Academy! These doctors will continue training to hone their skills and leadership through the spring. Their voices will join a chorus of several hundred past alumni working throughout their careers to protect and advance comprehensive reproductive and sexual health care.
