Meet Our Advocates: Meera Nagarsheth (she/her)

Where do you call home?

I am the daughter of immigrants from India and was born and raised in Florida.

What are your clinical or research interests?

I am interested in reproductive justice, abolition in medicine, anti-racism in medicine, community-centered care, and harm reduction in the management of substance use disorder.

What do you wish other providers knew about reproductive health, rights, and justice?

I dream of “care” that centers abolition, anti-racism, and anti-capitalism and wish that providers understood and practiced reproductive justice in their delivery of care and advocated for decriminalization of care. I also wish that providers surrendered their power and partnered with communities/organizers to dismantle the systems of oppression and reimagine care that centers mutual aid, self determination, and consent.

What local justice-centered organization do you want to uplift?

Given I recently moved to Michigan, I will say that the local organizations I want to uplift based on where I previously was located include Sista Fire in RI and Dream Defenders in Miami. I am so excited to learn about local organizations in Michigan to get involved in during my year here.

What is bringing you joy?

Volunteering and visiting my family have been so joyful as I transition to my fellowship year.

Our Meet Our Advocates series showcases the talents and passion of one of our doctors and finds out, in their own words, what inspires them to be physician advocates. Meera Nagarsheth (MD, MA) is a Fellow in our Leadership Training Academy Class of 2025 and specializes in Family Medicine.
