Time to put ACA repeal behind us and put patient health first

In response to breaking news that the Senate will not vote on the Graham-Cassidy bill that would have destroyed reproductive health from preventive care, to maternity care, to abortion care, Consulting Medical Director for Physicians for Reproductive Health Anne Davis issued the following statement:

“I hope that we can finally put the attempts to repeal the Affordable Care Act behind us. For the past seven years, congressional conservative leaders have made it a shameful priority to try and destroy a policy that has helped millions of patients stay healthy.

I have seen countless patients over the years whose health and well-being have been changed by the ACA, and I am so thankful they can still rely on this coverage.

This latest bill would have been a disaster for women’s health. It would have gutted Medicaid and access to basic family planning, and jeopardized essential services like maternity care. It would have made patients who already struggle to get quality, affordable care only more vulnerable.

I have seen countless patients over the years whose health and well-being have been changed by the ACA, and I am so thankful they can still rely on this coverage.

Doctors want Congress to put patient health first. We want Congress to start talking about how to improve the health care inequities we see every day. Please help us address maternal mortality rates, improve access to preventive services, and break down barriers to safe abortion care.
